Counselling

Counselling

A space to talk, understand and move forward

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming. You may be facing a particular difficulty, struggling with thoughts or feelings you don’t fully understand, experiencing problems in a relationship, or simply feeling that something needs to change.

Counselling gives you a safe, confidential and supportive space to explore what is happening for you – without judgement and without being told what you should do.

As your counsellor, my role isn’t to give you my opinions, tell you what decisions to make or prescribe medication. Instead, I will listen, support and work alongside you as we explore your thoughts, feelings, experiences and behaviours.

Together, we can begin to understand what may be contributing to the difficulties you are experiencing, recognise your strengths and explore solutions or ways of coping that feel right for you.

The ultimate aim is to help you develop a greater understanding of yourself and feel more confident managing life's challenges – both now and in the future.

Taking the first step

If you are considering counselling, you have already taken an important first step.

Whatever has brought you here, finding a counsellor you feel comfortable talking to matters. Counselling is personal, and the relationship between you and your counsellor is an important part of the process.

That’s why I offer a free, no-obligation 15-minute telephone or video consultation before you decide whether you would like to book a session.

It gives us the opportunity to have an informal conversation, talk briefly about what has brought you to counselling, answer any questions you may have and see whether we feel comfortable working together.

How many counselling sessions will I need?

There isn’t a set number of sessions that is right for everyone.

Some people come to counselling to work through a particular issue, while others find that longer-term support gives them the time and space they need.

We can discuss this together during your initial sessions and agree an approach and frequency that feels appropriate for you. We can also review this as our work progresses – you are not committing yourself to a fixed number of sessions.

When you book an appointment, you will receive confirmation of the date, time and relevant details for your session.

Ways We Can Work Together

Counselling doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. I offer a choice of in-person, Walk & Talk, online and telephone counselling, allowing us to find an approach that feels comfortable and practical for you.

In-Person Counselling

My private Log Cabin provides a comfortable, professional and confidential setting without the clinical feel of a traditional therapy room.

It is a calm space where you can step away from everyday life and have time dedicated entirely to you.

Here, you can talk openly and explore your thoughts, feelings, relationships, experiences and behaviours at your own pace.

Counselling can support you through many of life’s challenges, from anxiety, depression, stress and relationship difficulties to bereavement, trauma, significant life changes and experiences from the past that continue to affect you today.

Walk & Talk Counselling

Taking counselling outdoors

For some people, sitting face-to-face in a counselling room doesn’t feel like the most natural way to talk.

Walk & Talk counselling takes our conversation outside, allowing us to walk side by side while we talk.

Being close to the Thames Estuary and Belfairs Woods means I can offer outdoor sessions in natural surroundings where appropriate.

Walking can create a different rhythm to a counselling session. Some people find that being outdoors and moving while they talk helps conversation flow more naturally and makes the counselling experience feel less intense.

We can discuss whether Walk & Talk counselling feels suitable for you during your initial consultation.

Online & Telephone Counselling

Support wherever you feel comfortable

Online and telephone counselling offer a flexible and accessible alternative to meeting in person.

You may prefer counselling from the familiarity of your own home, have a busy schedule, live further away or find travelling to appointments difficult.

Online sessions allow us to meet face-to-face by video, while telephone counselling can be helpful if you feel more comfortable talking without being on camera.

These options can also make counselling more accessible for people with disabilities, mobility difficulties, health conditions or other circumstances that make attending in person challenging.

Whichever way we work together, the focus remains the same: providing you with a confidential, supportive and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly and feel heard.

Not sure which option is right for you?

You don’t need to decide before getting in touch.

We can talk about the different options during your free 15-minute consultation and find an approach that feels comfortable for you.

In-person

The Log Cabin provides a safe, professional, nonclinical and confidential space, for you to explore your thoughts, concerns, feelings and behaviours so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and others.

Talking therapies can help with many difficult life problems - from coping with traumatic experiences and events, to dealing with depression and anxiety or managing harmful emotions and behaviours.

 Walk & Talk

Taking counselling out of the therapy room and into the great outdoors.

Being close to the Thames Estuary and Belfair’s Woods, gives clients the option for outdoor therapy, which can help with just about anything indoor therapy can.

Research shows it’s useful for those who feel stuck in therapy, for survivors of institutional and therapeutic abuse, and for those who have had bad experiences of therapy.

Online & Phone

Online and Phone therapy provides accessibility to counselling, and can provide an easy avenue for getting started.

People who live busy lives or are unable to leave their home for various reasons, such as physical or mental illness, may find this option a useful alternative to traditional in-person psychotherapy settings.

Especially people who are disabled or housebound, as mobility can be a big issue when it comes to accessing mental health care.
