Frequently Asked Questions.
Choosing a counsellor is a personal decision, and it’s completely natural to have questions before getting started. Here are answers to some of the things I’m most frequently asked
1. Do you offer both online and in-person counselling?
Yes. I offer face-to-face counselling in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex, as well as online and telephone sessions.
I also offer Walk & Talk counselling for clients who prefer talking while walking outdoors.
We can discuss the different options and find what feels most comfortable and practical for you.
2. When are appointments available?
I offer appointments during weekdays, evenings and weekends, subject to availability.
Please get in touch to discuss current appointment times and find one that works for you.
3. How much does counselling cost?
Individual counselling sessions start from £60.
I also offer couples counselling and relationship services. A limited number of reduced-rate appointments may be available, so please do ask.
You can find full details on my Counselling Services page or contact me to discuss your needs.
4. Are you registered with a professional body?
Yes. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
My practice is guided by professional and ethical standards, including confidentiality, clear boundaries and working in the best interests of my clients.
5. What type of counselling do you offer?
I am an integrative, relationship-based counsellor.
This means I draw on different therapeutic approaches and tools depending on you and your individual needs, rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach.
My work is led by you and what you bring to each session. I will listen, explore and work alongside you, while sometimes gently directing the conversation when it may be helpful.
Where appropriate, I may also suggest exercises or reflections between sessions.
Alongside individual and couples counselling, I provide relationship awareness services and relationship workshops, including my School of Love programme.
6. What happens during my first counselling session?
Your first session is about getting to know each other and helping you feel comfortable and safe.
We’ll talk about what has brought you to counselling, what you would like support with and what you hope to gain from our time together.
There is also a small amount of paperwork to complete to establish clear boundaries and ensure confidentiality, safety and your wellbeing remain at the heart of our therapeutic relationship.
There is no expectation to tell me everything in your first session. We work at a pace that feels right for you.
7. What if my partner wants a divorce but I’m not sure?
When one person is considering ending a relationship and the other wants to stay together, knowing what to do next can feel incredibly difficult.
I offer discernment counselling for couples who are uncertain about the future of their relationship.
Rather than immediately trying to repair the relationship, discernment counselling provides a structured space to gain greater clarity about what you both want and what the next step might be.
This could mean choosing to work on your relationship through couples counselling or deciding to separate and exploring how you can move forward with greater understanding and healthier communication.
The purpose isn’t to persuade either person to stay or leave. It is to help you both gain clarity about the way forward.
Still have a question?
If there’s something you’d like to know that isn’t covered here, please get in touch.
I offer a free, no-obligation 15-minute telephone or video consultation, giving you an opportunity to ask questions, tell me a little about what you’re looking for and decide whether I might be the right counsellor for you.
Sometimes that first conversation is all it takes to make getting started feel a little easier.
